The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides many cities with funds in order to assist low income families with the purchase of their first home.

This financial aid covers many Southern California cities. If you wish to purchase your first home and have a low income, you may qualify for economic assistance in the city where you live.

Programs
Programs vary depending on the city; major cities usually receive greater funds and offer more services. The city of Los Angeles offers up to 10 different programs, which include financial assistance to purchase certain renovated homes, non-refundable loans, and down payment, among many other programs.
Anaheim is a good example of a smaller city, and it offers 2 types of assistance to first-time homebuyers who qualify: Second Mortgage Assistance Program (SMAP) and the HOME program, which provides up to $50,000 (non-refundable), depending on the family’s income.

• Permanently reside in the home (if the home is sold, the loan must be paid back)
